Walking Tour of Newburyport’s African American History

  • Lazarus Studio 313 Merrimac Street Newburyport, MA, 01950 United States (map)

Most students will be out of school in honor of Veteran’s Day.  I’ve taken this opportunity to arrange a walking tour of downtown Newburyport with local historian Ghlee Woodworth.  This is going to be the official start of our study of composers of color.  The walking tour, starting at Brown’s Square, will take us to places that are familiar to us on the outside, but little known to us about the lives of African Americans living here on the inside.  The walking tour will be an hour in length.   I encourage families and parents to come with their piano student.  While we visit the sites of former clam shacks, mill buildings, stores, houses and bakery’s, there just might be some biscuits and donuts for students along the way.
