September 9th is the start of the 2019-2020 Piano Year! Our major project for the year is titled: “Left out: Historic Women Composers in elementary and early intermediate books for beginning piano students. ” So we are going to work with noted composer Dr. Eleanor Aversa of Boston Conservatory. She will write music just for our studio! And Eleanor will lead us in a workshop about composing. We will all compose a variation of a theme this year and present our work in a recital. We will also work with Eleanor’s graduate students in composition, who will help us to take famous women composers in history like Clara Schumann, Fanny Mendelssohn and Amy Beach and make an arrangement of some of their music so that beginning piano students can become familiar with their work! This is unprecedented in a community studio and our work this year will become a valuable contribution to music for young students to learn.
